A key component of traditional Chinese medicine and proven to stimulate the body’s sensory nerves and muscles, acupuncture is a wonderful choice of therapy for those seeking pain relief and treatment for a whole host of ailments.

What is acupuncture?

Used a medical treatment in China for thousands of years, acupuncture is recognised as a complementary therapy whereby the practitioner inserts small, thin needles into selected points in the body called acupoints. This is designed to help alleviate pain, symptoms, or treat various health complaints such as back pain, headaches and muscle tension. Conditions that can be treated with acupuncture are:

Chronic pain / back pain

Menopause symptoms

Endometriosis / pelvic inflammatory disorder

Tension headaches / migraines

Hayfever and allergies

Skin complaints such as eczema and psoriasis

What to expect:

During the initial consultation our acupuncture practitioner will discuss your requirements, the treatment process and advise on how many sessions you may need. You will be given an information sheet to read and a consent form to sign prior to treatment. Our qualified acupuncture specialist Jolene has years of experience in providing her treatments, and so can answer any questions you may have. Sterile single use needles will be used, using an aseptic technique, and these will be manipulated throughout the treatment session. These needles will be inserted in various positions and depths, depending on location.

Whilst during the treatment you may experience some aching or tingling, these are your body’s natural responses to the fine needles and are extremely short-lived. After your muscles relax, you’ll quickly be able to feel the benefits of the treatment!
