Dermal Fillers: The REAL Truth About Your Treatments

The aesthetics industry is often one rife with frustrating headlines. We’ve all seen the newspaper statements that slate dermal fillers, or the articles that list Ten Celebrities Who Have DEFINITELY Had Botox. But is this fair? As an aesthetics business which welcomes hundreds of people for fillers and other non-surgical treatments every single year, we try not to grimace when somebody says the words: “It’s always obvious when someone’s had work done.” Is it obvious? And should it be? In light of these comments, we thought it was about time to put those filler rumours to rest. Because the proper intention of dermal fillers may surprise you.

The first real secret to dermal fillers is that they are just that – secret. If your fillers have been injected well and are intended to look natural, then people will not be able to tell. Hundreds of thousands of people across the world have fillers every year, but you certainly wouldn’t be able to walk down the street and spot them all. Instead, they’ll be the people that you would choose to compliment on their fresh and glowing skin. The ones that may have a few lines, yes, but they still look healthy, radiant and glowing.

You may argue that if you can’t actually tell that someone’s ‘had work done’, then what’s the point? But a dermal filler isn’t a miracle elixir, nor is it the secret to eternal life. What fillers should do is enhance your features to make you look the best version of yourself – the best version of yourself for your age. It’s not about trying to shave 20 years from your face or bringing back the youthfulness of your late teens. You shouldn’t walk out with lips that look like they’ve been inflated like a balloon. You shouldn’t have a face that has had every single fine line filled in. You’ll simply look amazing for your years.

Here at The Attic Spa, we don’t believe in unnatural-looking, puffy fillers. We specialise in tailoring our services so that your face looks as natural as possible.

But how do you go about creating that natural look? It starts with your initial consultation. When it comes to any customer looking to get a non-surgical treatment at our spa, we believe in concentrating on their face as a whole. It’s all too easy for people to get hung up on the size of their lips, the shape of their cheeks or the lines around their eyes. But what may seem like your most obvious hang-up may not even be visible to others. By taking this ‘full face’ approach, we can look at how to enhance all of your features so that you look like the best version of yourself. Target only the lips or the cheeks or the eyes and you may start to lose the natural balance and proportion of your face. With our director and nurse practitioner Mandy, you’ll be able to run through your skin type, discuss any concerns and come up with the best course of action to get the results you want.

Of course, dermal fillers aren’t for everyone. Before anyone starts considering injections and Botox we do recommend that you invest first and foremost in your skincare. Sticking to a regular regime that boosts your circulation, hydrates your skin and protects it from sun damage will treat your skin in the long run more than any fillers ever will. So grab that cleanser. Try a toner. Moisturise. Exfoliate. Protect. Correct. Do what works for you and keeps your skin healthy, and you’ll enjoy a face that is radiant throughout your entire life.

Finding the perfect skincare products can be tricky, but here at The Attic Spa we’re always on hand to make recommendations. Every skincare product that we have in our spa is tried, tested and specially selected to bring out the best in your skin. Whether you’ve had dermal fillers or not.
