Electrolysis

Electrolysis is a method of permanent hair removal with amazing results. Safe, reliable and gentle, electrolysis hair removal can be used to target hairs on the face, including the lip, chin and other small areas such as the underarm, bikini line and nipple area.

How Does Electrolysis Hair Removal Work?

Electrolysis hair removal works by permanently destroying each individual hair follicle with a very fine, disposable and sterile probe combined with direct current. After this process, the hair follicle can no longer reproduce. Because of this, on completion of your course of treatment, hair growth will be completely eradicated. This makes electrolysis one of the only permanent hair removal treatments around.

Usually, a series of sessions is needed to completely prevent hair growth. If this hair growth is caused by a hormonal imbalance, the process may be slower but is still possible.

What To Expect At Electrolysis Hair Removal

  • Before we book you in for electrolysis hair removal, you will need a consultation with our therapist Ellie our electrolysis specialist. During the consultation, she will assess your skin type and any concerns, including which areas you would like to treat with permanent hair removal. By doing this, she can determine how many sessions you may need. She will also carry out a patch test for your safety and well-being.

This ensures that electrolysis hair removal is the right solution for you. Without first performing this patch test, we cannot carry out treatment.

  • Please arrive at your appointment with clean skin, free of any makeup or products. It is important that you stop using any retinol/retinoid treatments or chemical exfoliators for at least three weeks before your appointment.

During treatment, the fine probe will be inserted into the hair follicle, cauterising the blood supply.

Current passes through the follicle for about two seconds, destroying it and preventing future growth. The hair can then be gently removed using sterile tweezers.

This process is relatively pain-free, although it can be uncomfortable.

  • After treatment, the skin may be a little red. This will usually go down within 24 hours, but it is important that you do not rub or touch the treated area during this time. You can expect some mild scabbing and a sensation that feels similar to mild sunburn. This is completely normal and will only be experienced for a short period of time.

We recommend that you stay out of direct contact with the sun for at least 24 hours after electrolysis hair removal, wearing a hat and sunscreen where possible.
